Crossing the Pacific Ocean to pursue this new direction was a leap of faith that others deemed risky, but following my heart has led to a deeply rewarding 10+ years career in HR. Along the way, I’ve learned the value of courageous choices and the importance of listening to that inner calling.
My Journey
Originally from China, I came to the United States in my early 20s to pursue a path that resonated with my true interests. Although I initially studied Computer Science—a field that offered stability—I quickly realized that my heart wasn’t in it. Winning a scholarship alongside a peer whose passion for computers was clear helped me see that I, too, wanted work that would bring me joy.
An internship that involved building a statistical model for the recruiting department turned out to be exciting when I started connecting directly with applicants over the phone. Their trust in my guidance, even as an intern, sparked something within me, leading me to further my studies in Human Resources.
